The caliper log in the first column shows the very poor hole conditions in the upper 180 meters, where recovery was almost 100%, and the very good hole in the cherts and chalks below this depth, where recovery was less than 10%. Combining core and logs, we have a complete picture of the sediment section entering the Izu-Bonin trench.
