Wireline Standard Data Processing

ODP logging contractor: LDEO-BRG

Well name: 672A

Leg: 110

Location: N Barbados Ridge (tropical NW Atlantic)

Latitude: 15° 32.40' N

Longitude: 58° 38.46' W

Logging date: July, 1986

Bottom felt: 4983 mbrf

Total penetration: 493.8 mbsf

Total core recovered: 381.3 m (77 %)

Logging Runs

Logging string 1: DIT/LSS/GR

Logging string 2: Multichannel Sonic

No information available from logging report about use of wireline heave compensator to counter ship heave.

Bottom-hole Assembly/Drill Pipe

The logs show the bottom-hole assembly at 117 mbsf and the drill pipe at 58 mbsf. Any discrepancy with the BHA or drill pipe depths given by the drillers onboard may be due to ship heave and drill string and/or wireline stretch.

Processing

Depth shift: No differential depth shift necessary as only one run was recorded. The original logs have been depth shifted to the sea floor (- 4940 m). This value corresponds to the bottom depth as seen on the gamma ray log and differs 2 m from the "bottom felt" depth given by the drillers (see above).

Acoustic data processing: Only 13 meters of logs were recorded.

Quality Control

Only 33 meters of logs were recorded open hole in Hole 672A.

The gamma ray data recorded through bottom-hole assembly should be used qualitatively only because of the attenuation on the incoming signal.

Hole diameter was recorded by the 3-arm mechanical caliper device.
