Mount Elbert Data
The Mt. Elbert Gas Hydrate Stratigraphic Test Well, drilled as part of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)’s “Methane Hydrate Research and Development Program”, is located on the Alaska North Slope within the Milne Point Unit of the Prudhoe Bay Oil Field. It was drilled as part of a cooperative agreement between DOE and BP Exploration Alaska (BPXA), in collaboration with the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and several universities and industry partners, to evaluate whether natural gas hydrate from the Alaska North Slope could be viably produced either technically or commercially (excerpt from the Mount Elbert Methane Hydrate Site wikipedia page).
The data collected here include most of the wireline logs recorded during the 2007 operations and provide a full characterization of petrophysical properties of the interval drilled through the “Eileen Trend” methane hydrate accumulation.
